Miși, that’s how friends call him, joined AgileHub team in 2019. He is a very experienced IT guy, who started his career back in 1998, when Fox Pro was mostly used for developing data-centric applications. Working with databases was his passion from the beginning and his focus on learning more and more made him a Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA) in SQL Server.
He is currently a programmer and database administrator focusing on finding ways, tips and tricks, to optimize the SQL Server database on a daily basis.
His interest in non-relation databases also helps him give recommendations that make the difference in the applications for which he works.
As with most of our colleagues, he was recommended due to his experience; not long after he joined AgileHub (in early 2019) we organized his first training.
Workshop: Development of SQL Server Databases in Visual Studio
The goal of the workshop?
Most applications need a database tier. They use data for their operations, save data entered by users or do analytics on historical data.
As the application evolves and new features are added, the database tier needs to evolve as well. The database schema needs to be upgraded for each new version and the user data already saved into the database needs to be migrated to the new schema.
For this development the SQL Server Database Project template of Visual Studio is helpful. In the workshop SQL Server Database Project, the goal is to learn how to develop and test SQL Server databases using the Visual Studio database project.
What will we do in this workshop?
I’m pleased to present you the usage of the SQL Server Database Project and how can we manage the database upgrade process. My presentation will contain demonstrations as well.
In order to understand better the process, you will need to do some simple exercises, having fun with database development and testing.
You are in the target of the audience if you:
- Want to learn how to develop a simple database in Visual Studio.
- Develop SQL Server databases but you want to learn about a solution that help you in the incremental development.
- Want to learn how to implement database unit tests in order to increase the quality of your application.
What will you learn at the end?
You will learn how to develop a new database using Visual Studio, including the upgrade of an existing database to the new version.
Aside for this, you will learn about database unit tests. Implementing unit tests for your stored procedures will increase the quality and reduce the risk when a new version is developed
What tools do you need installed on your computer before the workshop starts?
- Visual Studio 2019 Community – https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/community/
- Enable the Data Storage and Processing feature in Visual Studio – https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssdt/download-sql-server-data-tools-ssdt?view=sql-server-ver15#install-ssdt-with-visual-studio-2019
