As the world transitions towards cloud development more and more organisations are moving to focus on creating platforms rather than products.  

What does it mean to create a software platform, and how is that different to creating a product? Why choose to go in this direction? How do you build a platform? What modern software architectures enable platform development, and what are some of the key practices that platform development companies adopt?
